Day 4 – Roma to Mitchell

Day-4-RideWest

After a very well deserved sleep-in, the Peloton departed Roma this morning for Mitchell at 8.30am in brilliant sunshine.  Officially the “hump day” with only a ”short” 88km ride, the bunch welcomed the perfect conditions and the oh so slight breeze.

The shorter, more gentle ride and awesome conditions allowed some of the V8 engine to hang back in the bunch today, and give some of the other riders the chance to lead out and take turns on the front – even Sophia Grundy was loving it up front, giving the boys a run for their money.  It was great to see Steve Eussen from Longreach make it back into the Peloton after a couple of days out with a bad knee, and to see Jacen Carpenter and Lou Menthinick make their debuts on the ride today, both completing a stretch of the 88km. In the true spirit of RideWest, it’s brilliant to see people of different riding calibre giving it a go and to see some great team spirit really coming to the fore.

Our on-tour masseuse, Liane Wild is certainly starting to see a lot more of the bunch lining up for nightly massages and needling sessions as the week-long ride hits the half-way mark.  However, with the longer rest today following an early arrival into Mitchell ”the gateway to the Outback”, its looking like Liane’s magic might just be the difference in getting the Peloton to Longreach in 3 days and almost 700km time.  Phew. Bring on those beers at the iconic Mitchell pub tonight!
