RideWest 2015 – Route 2 – Longreach to Tennant Creek

In June 2015, a new RideWest ride is taking place.

Complimenting the bi-annual Brisbane to Longreach ride which raises funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the 2015 ride from Longreach to Tennant Creek will cover 1335km across Western Queensland and the Northern Territory.

With a goal to reach more of the remote towns of the Western reqion severely affected by drought, Les and Shelley Hancock and a bunch of RideWest Alumni, have grouped together to take on this next challenge.

Supported by major sponsor Lindsay Australia, the RideWest Peloton will be led out from Longreach on Friday 5th June and will finish in Tennant Creek 8 days later on Friday 12th June.

16 riders (10 from the 2014 ride, 4 from previous rides and 2 new riders to RideWest) and 5 support staff will take on the remote 1335km trek, taking in the towns and stations of Winton, Kynuna, Cloncurry, Mt Isa, Cammoweal, Soudan Station, Barkley Homestead and Tennant Creek.

Founder Les Hancock says that while this year’s ride will focus more on raising the awareness of the support needed in these remote areas at this difficult drought-stricken time, there is also a fundraising goal to reach the total 500K ‘overall funds raised target’ by RideWest.
